Sonia Nevermind
Dangan Ronpa 2 | 2013

Photoshoot

The character I am portraying is a princess of a fictional kingdom, Novoselic (very likely taken from Nirvana's bassist Krist Novoselic, especially considering the character's surname "Nevermind", also the band's most famous album).
Considering she is royalty and in line for the throne, I chose to have the photoshoot at the Mafra National Palace, a beautiful baroque palace, very close from where I live.

Photoshoot 2
I was invited for a photoshoot by Kerubyn Photography, to have some pictures displayed at a cosplay exhibition in Smolensk, Russia.
I was asked to wear this particular costume, which I had not upgraded as I had wished yet. With little time before the photoshoot, I fixed acessories and added a couple small details, namely the bow, which I re-made and th bracelet, that I exchanged for a more accurate one. I attempted to make the skirt "poof" out a bit more but I will have to invest in a better petticoat in the future for that.
I have a few other things I'd like to add and fix so I'm looking forward to the next photoshoot.
For the location, we used the gardens beside the Mafra National Palace.

With the pattern already made, I started cutting the fabric. The bottom part of the dress is a full circle skirt. At this point, I cut a large bar to begin making the box pleats by hand.

Trying on the dress for the first time, after attatching the zipper on the back. At this point, minor alterations were made for better fitting.

Reference of the character I based myself on, Sonia Nevermind from the game Dangan Ronpa 2.

The costume
I made the dress from scratch, using a shirt for the bodice's base pattern and altering it for better fitting. The lower part of the dress is a full circle skirt, with box pleats added to the botton, all made by hand. The red bow is made of cotton and is adorned with a cameo, made out of a silver frame and a transparent cabochon, painted on the back with dark blue nail polish and with glitter. The bow on the head is made out of the same fabric as the dress and embelished with rhinestones.
The wig was braided to fit the character's design.
